Nanjing impersonator rumors resurface following viral mall photo

Speculation has resurfaced on Chinese social media regarding the possible reappearance of the individual known as ‘Nanjing Hong Sister’. A photo circulating on Weibo shows a person in female attire standing in front of a mirror at a shopping mall in Guangzhou, leading some users to claim it is the same individual involved in a high-profile case over a year ago.

The original case involved a 38-year-old man surnamed Xiao from Nanjing, who was arrested in July 2025. Xiao reportedly disguised himself as a woman to meet approximately 1,691 men, secretly recording the encounters and distributing private videos online. He was detained by police for the dissemination of obscene materials.

While the person in the recent Guangzhou photo bears a resemblance to Xiao, the original poster noted that the identity has not been verified through direct contact. There is currently no evidence to confirm whether the individual in the image is indeed the person from the Nanjing case.
