Nanjing kindergarten food safety scandal leads to staff dismissals

A major food safety and hygiene scandal has been uncovered at a kindergarten affiliated with the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in Jiangsu Province, China. The controversy erupted after a school medical officer, Ms. Wang, released photographic evidence on social media documenting severe mismanagement in the school's kitchen facilities.

According to the evidence, food preparation areas were being used for improper tasks. Sinks intended for washing vegetables were reportedly used to soak mosquito nets, wash hair, and clean footwear with disinfectant solutions. Most notably, large metal cooking pots used for preparing meals were being utilized to scrub sewer manhole covers and wash floor mops.

These revelations follow a mass vomiting incident on June 30, where dozens of students fell ill after lunch. While official records initially noted 20 cases, parents have independently compiled data suggesting approximately 50 children were affected. In response to the findings, 11 staff members have faced disciplinary action, and the school's administration has been dismissed.
