Nano One develops LFP cathode technology to reduce China dependency
Nano One Materials is advancing its efforts to establish a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode supply chain independent of China. The company utilizes a proprietary ‘One-Pot’ process that produces cathode active materials (CAM) directly from non-sulfate metals or oxides, aiming to mitigate supply chain risks in a highly regulated global market.
In a recent collaboration, Nano One used battery-quality lithium carbonate supplied by Standard Lithium from its South West Arkansas Project to produce LFP CAM. The material was tested in battery coin cells at Nano One’s facility in Burnaby, British Columbia, where it met target chemical and physical parameters, achieving a performance of approximately 155 mAh/g on first discharge.
Nano One’s business model focuses on technology licensing and regional partnerships through development vehicles (DevCos) to outsource the construction and operation of facilities. The company is also expanding its Candiac Facility, with plans to reach a production capacity of approximately 800 tons per year and commission an expanded demonstration line in the first half of 2027.
