Nanoscopy technology advances minimally invasive sports medicine
Advances in sports medicine are transforming recovery processes through the use of nanoscopy. A notable application of this technology was seen with Detroit Tigers baseball pitcher Tarik Skubal, who faced a cartilage fragment issue in his arm during a critical season.
Instead of traditional arthroscopy, which typically requires a recovery period of two to three months, surgeon Neal ElAttrache utilized the NanoNeedle Scope 2.0. This device, measuring only 1.9 millimeters in diameter, features a high-resolution micro-camera. Compared to traditional arthroscopes that are approximately 4 millimeters wide, this technology reduces tissue impact by 53% and requires 65% less fluid to be pumped into the joint, allowing for significantly less invasive procedures.
