NANS conducts road inspections in Nigeria and mining industry visit in Ghana

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has undertaken several high-profile activities involving infrastructure inspections and industry visits. Following a tour of the Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Kano roads, NANS President Babatunde Akinteye commended President Bola Tinubu and Works Minister David Umahi for their investments in road infrastructure, noting improvements in transportation. However, critics have questioned the independence of the tour, citing the relationship between NANS and Minister Umahi, who serves as the organization's Grand Patron.

In a separate engagement, NANS executives led by Akinteye visited Sewia Mining & Refinery in Accra, Ghana. During the visit, the delegation observed gold-smelting and mining operations. Olatunde Gideon Igbasan, CEO of Sewia Mining & Refinery, committed ₦15 million to support student development and welfare initiatives, with ₦10 million designated for NANS Nigeria and ₦5 million for NANS Ghana. Igbasan encouraged African youth to pursue careers in the mineral resource sector, emphasizing the importance of local processing and value addition over raw material export.
