Nanyang Technological University completes eVTOL flight tests in Germany

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from Singapore has completed a month-long flight-test campaign in Cochstedt, Germany, for its first indigenously designed and built electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Conducted at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) National Experimental Test Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, the tests involved two remote-controlled prototypes.

The larger prototype, featuring an 8-metre wingspan, reached altitudes exceeding 90 metres. The smaller 3-metre wingspan model achieved speeds of over 120 km/h. These demonstrators were designed to test the transition between hovering and fixed-wing flight, a key technical challenge in electric aviation.

The project, supported by Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2025 plan and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), aims to develop intellectual property and systems-engineering expertise for future transport of goods and people.
