Naoki Yoshida says Final Fantasy VI remake would require four to five games

Square Enix director Naoki Yoshida explained at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin that a remake of the classic role‑playing game Final Fantasy VI would be a massive undertaking. He noted that the original title’s scope is “incredibly huge” and that translating it into a modern remake would likely need four or perhaps five separate installments, far larger than the three‑part Final Fantasy VII remake. Yoshida also said the same level of effort would apply to other fan‑requested titles such as Final Fantasy VIII and IX, and he cautioned that, despite strong player interest, the development resources and team continuity required make a remake far from certain.

He emphasized, “I understand the feelings of the players, but you’ve got to think about it,” underscoring that the decision is not simply a matter of fan demand. No concrete plans were announced, and the discussion focused on the practical challenges rather than confirming a future project.
