Naoko Takahashi discusses her connection to the Ome Marathon

Former marathon runner and Olympic gold medalist Naoko Takahashi has shared her personal connection to the Ome Marathon as part of the ‘Ome LOVER’ interview series. Takahashi, who set a Japanese record at the 30km event in 2001, described the race as a place that provided emotional support during a difficult period following her Olympic success.

She highlighted the challenging nature of the course, noting its frequent elevation changes, but emphasized that the local support and natural scenery provide strength to participants. The Ome Marathon is a traditional citizen race established in 1967, featuring 30km and 10km courses.

Registration for the next marathon, scheduled for February 21, 2027, is currently open until November 3, 2026. Takahashi is expected to participate as a special guest to support the event.
