Naomi Osaka discusses career future ahead of Tokyo tournament

Former world number one Naomi Osaka has expressed that she is nearing her peak form while also reflecting on the possibility of future retirement. Speaking ahead of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, the 29-year-old Japanese player stated that her daughter, Shai, is her absolute priority. Osaka admitted she would consider stepping away from professional tennis if her daughter requested she travel less.

Currently ranked 19th in the world, Osaka noted that her mindset has shifted since returning to the circuit following a 15-month hiatus for motherhood. She expressed optimism about her recent performances, including reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, and aims to build on this foundation.

In Tokyo, Osaka enters as the seventh seed and is scheduled to face Jasmine Paolini in the first round. She also shared her respect for fellow Japanese player Kei Nishikori following his retirement, expressing a desire to serve as a mentor and role model for younger Asian athletes.
