Naomi Osaka defeats Jasmine Paolini at Tokyo WTA 500

Naomi Osaka secured a straight-sets victory over Jasmine Paolini in the opening round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo. The world No. 18 won the match with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in approximately one hour and 38 minutes.

Osaka made a notable entrance wearing a blue, kimono-inspired outfit featuring crane motifs, a collaboration with designer Hana Yagi intended to honor Japanese culture. Following the win, Osaka expressed her gratitude to the home crowd and noted her desire to bring something special to Japan.

Paolini, ranked 35th, had opportunities to extend the match in the second set but was unable to capitalize on three consecutive set points before losing the tie-break. Osaka will face Slovakia's Mia Pohankova in the second round.
