Naper Settlement hosts international cultural performances and tapestry project

Naper Settlement recently hosted a series of cultural events featuring international performances and a community art project. As part of the “Creative Placemaking” initiative by Mandala South Asian Performing Arts, the museum held “Nature and Narratives,” an immersive storytelling performance.

The musical event featured artists from India, Indonesia, Taiwan, and the Philippines, including Indian classical musician Chethan Anant, Balinese dancer I Gusti Kertayudha Ngurah, South Asian percussionist Chamni Sripraram, and Taiwanese multi-instrumentalist Tzu-Tsen Wu. They were joined by dancer Raji Venkat.

Additionally, artist Marvin Veloso led a collective tapestry-making project titled “Tapestries Toward the Future.” The project utilized textiles and garments donated by Naperville-area residents to create a collage-like tapestry intended to express cultural memory and relationality.
