Naples: Student dies after hit-and-run accident

Rebecca Pepe, a 24-year-old student from Lecce, has died following a hit-and-run accident in Naples. The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, September 4, on Viale Antonio Dohrn while she was on vacation with friends.

Pepe was crossing the road when she was struck by a vehicle. Following the impact, the driver fled the scene without providing assistance. The victim was rushed to the Ospedale del Mare in critical condition, suffering a severe traumatic brain injury, but succumbed to her wounds after four days in intensive care.

Her family has consented to organ donation. The driver, a 19-year-old male, turned himself in to the local police the following day. Investigators utilized surveillance footage and dashcam recordings from a witness to reconstruct the accident. The driver's legal position has worsened following the fatality, and he faces potential charges of vehicular homicide.
