Naples-Bari high-speed rail investigation reveals corruption

An investigation by the Naples Prosecutor's Office has uncovered evidence of corruption regarding the Naples-Bari high-speed/high-capacity rail construction sites. The probe involves several consortia, including Hirpinia AV, Nacav, and Telese.

Libera Avellino has expressed deep concern over the findings, describing the strategic infrastructure project as a “free zone” for bribes and illegal subcontracts. The organization highlighted potential severe consequences of the alleged corruption, including the use of substandard concrete, environmental damage from asbestos, and the exploitation of foreign workers forced into grueling conditions.

In response to the investigation, Libera Avellino is calling for strengthened anti-mafia controls, increased oversight on construction sites, and greater public access to data to ensure transparency in projects funded by billions of euros in public money.
