Naples car fire on Ponte della Sanità causes massive smoke plume
A vehicle caught fire on the Ponte della Sanità in Naples during Friday night, producing a massive column of smoke visible from several kilometers away. Firefighters arrived on the scene with multiple teams and water tankers to extinguish the flames and secure the area, which required temporary road closures and the relocation of nearby vehicles.
The car, which was a gasoline-powered model rather than an electric vehicle, was completely carbonized by the time the fire was brought under control. While the exact cause of the ignition remains under investigation, mechanical failure is being considered as a possibility. Following the intervention, technicians inspected the bridge's structural integrity and reported no significant damage. The road has since been reopened to traffic after the debris and the remains of the vehicle were removed.
