Naples crime figure Carmine Grosso begins cooperating with justice
Carmine Grosso, a former leader associated with the Pirozzi-Savarese and Misso clans, has begun cooperating with justice officials in Naples. In statements provided to prosecutors in September 2026, Grosso detailed the criminal landscape and power struggles within the Sanità district.
Grosso testified that after his release from prison in 2014, he attempted to sever ties with organized crime. However, he claims he was targeted by various groups, including the Sequino, Genidoni, Vastarella, and Mauro clans. He reported being brutally assaulted with wooden clubs and helmets by Vastarella associates in 2015, an attack that forced him to flee the neighborhood.
During his testimony, Grosso described various attempts by criminal elements to recruit him for drug trafficking, specifically cocaine, and illegal gambling operations. He also detailed interactions with Patrizio Vastarella and Salvatore Savarese, noting that despite offers to provide housing and organize resistance against rival groups, he maintained his decision to exit criminal life.
