Naples crime investigation: Savarese-Pirozzi clan facing trial

A major criminal investigation into the Savarese-Pirozzi clan in Naples' Sanità district is moving toward a trial. Following a massive police operation in March that resulted in over 70 arrests, a high-level collaborator, Carmine Grosso, has decided to cooperate with authorities.

Grosso, a 61-year-old former member of the Misso group, is expected to testify in court during the upcoming abbreviated trial proceedings. His testimony aims to solidify evidence against the clan's leadership, including Salvatore Savarese and Ciro Mauro. The investigation highlights a violent landscape of drug trafficking, ambushes, and beatings within the historic center.

Prosecutors are working to secure a conviction against the group, which is viewed as a potential vehicle for the Mazzarella clan to gain control over the Sanità district. In response, the defendants are pursuing a legal strategy focused on a fast-tracked trial to benefit from sentence reductions.
