Naples Equality Councilor promotes silent ‘Signal for Help’ against violence

Olga Izzo, the Equality Councilor for the Metropolitan City of Naples, has launched an awareness initiative to combat gender violence, stalking, and femicide. The campaign focuses on teaching the ‘Signal for Help’, an internationally recognized silent gesture used to request assistance discreetly.

The signal consists of three steps: showing an open palm, tucking the thumb into the palm, and folding the fingers over the thumb. This universal code allows individuals in danger to signal for help even in the presence of an aggressor without being detected.

The initiative encourages bystanders to act if they witness the gesture by listening without judgment, moving the person away from danger, and contacting emergency services via 112 or 1522.
