Naples expands tram fleet with new Maradona-themed vehicles

Naples is expanding its public transport network with a new fleet of trams designed to promote sustainable mobility. The city is set to showcase a new tram at the ‘Next Station Innotrans’ international trade fair in Berlin, featuring a blue livery, images of the Gulf of Naples, and a tribute to Diego Armando Maradona.

The Turkish company Bozankaya, which secured the framework agreement for the supply, will present the vehicle in Berlin. This specific model is the sixteenth tram destined for Naples, serving as the first of an additional fifteen vehicles funded by the Campania Region.

Currently, thirteen of the initial fifteen trams ordered by the Municipality of Naples have arrived and are stored in local depots, with the final two expected shortly. The project aims to double the available fleet to strengthen tram services and improve public transport connectivity along the coastal axis, marking a significant reactivation of the tram network after approximately 25 years.
