Naples imposes stricter night‑time rules for Piazza Bellini bars

The Naples municipality has issued an ordinance that will remain in force from 29 July to 29 November 2026, limiting night‑time activity in the Piazza Bellini area. The measures prohibit the sale and takeaway of alcoholic and non‑alcoholic drinks between 22:30 and 06:00, set earlier closing times for venues (1 a.m. Monday‑Thursday, 2 a.m. Friday‑Saturday) and require re‑opening at 06:00.

The city cites repeated ARPAC noise‑monitoring reports that show the area exceeding legal sound‑level limits. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi defended the ruling, saying the stricter hours are needed to restore normality and comply with legal notices from residents and the prefecture. Several bar owners protested the limited notice, with Salvatore Bellotti chaining himself to a tree and displaying a sign reading “Il lavoro non è un gioco”. The protest was peaceful and drew the attention of Digos officers.

Assessor for Commerce Teresa Armato agreed to meet a merchants’ delegation on the following Monday to discuss possible adjustments. The ordinance aims to balance commercial activity with residents’ right to quiet evenings while the city plans a new ARPAC monitoring round after the rule’s expiry.
