Naples film events feature independent cinema and San Gennaro documentary
Naples is hosting several cinematic initiatives through late 2026. The 'Manifesti per un cinema libero' festival, organized by the H12 Cultural Association and promoted by the Municipality of Naples, will run until November 13, 2026. The program focuses on sixty years of independent and militant cinema, specifically exploring 'Third Cinema' through restored works from Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
As part of this series, Mohamed Challouf, founder of Ciné-Sud Patrimoine, will hold a masterclass at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts regarding pan-African cinema and audiovisual archive conservation. The festival also includes screenings such as Nouri Bouzid’s 1986 film 'L’uomo di cenere'.
Separately, Nexo Studios and Officina della Comunicazione are releasing 'O SANG. Il Miracolo di San Gennaro', a documentary directed by Giovanni Troilo. The film explores the relationship between faith, tradition, and popular identity in Naples through the lens of Saint Januarius. The documentary is scheduled for theatrical release from November 11 to 15, 2026, following press previews in Naples and Milan.
