Naples: Gunshots in Miano signal potential Camorra clan conflict

Gunshots were fired in the San Gaetano district of Miano, Naples, in an act known as a ‘stesa’—a warning display of force. Carabinieri from the Vomero company responded to reports of gunfire late Saturday night, discovering four 9mm shell casings near block 13. While no injuries or property damage were reported, the shots were fired into the air, suggesting the intent was intimidation rather than direct targeting.

The incident has heightened tensions in the Miano and Chiaiano areas. Investigators believe the shooting may signal a shift in local criminal control. The territory, formerly a stronghold of the Lo Russo clan, is currently seeing instability due to high-level informants and arrests. This vacuum has reportedly allowed the Licciardi clan to attempt to reclaim control, potentially leading to a conflict with emerging local groups over the management of illicit activities and drug trafficking.

Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators, who are believed to have operated from a scooter. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact criminal motives behind the intimidation.
