Naples implements vehicle restrictions to improve air quality

The City of Naples has implemented new anti-pollution measures to improve air quality by reducing pollutant emissions. The restrictions are set to take effect from October 19 and will remain in place until March 31, 2027.

The ban targets highly polluting vehicles, including Euro 0 and Euro 1 cars and commercial vehicles. Additionally, diesel-powered vehicles in categories N1, N2, and N3 up to the Euro 5 standard are prohibited, as are motorcycles and mopeds up to Euro 2.

These actions follow data from Arpac Campania showing daily PM10 limits and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels frequently exceeding or approaching regulatory thresholds. The initiative is part of a program agreement between the Campania Region and the Ministry of Environment to reduce climate-altering and polluting emissions.

Certain routes are excluded from these restrictions, such as the city's motorway network, the A1 Napoli–Rome and A3 Napoli–Salerno connectors, and the ex Statale 162 regional road. Exemptions are also provided for essential services, including vehicles for people with disabilities, law enforcement, emergency services, public transport, taxis, school buses, and certain historical vehicles.
