Naples commemorates journalist Giancarlo Siani

Naples has held a ceremony to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the assassination of Giancarlo Siani, a journalist for Il Mattino killed by the Camorra in 1985. The event took place at the Rampe Giancarlo Siani in the Arenella district, attended by local authorities, civil and military representatives, and Siani’s brother, Paolo Siani.

A central part of the commemoration was the unveiling of “Sine die,” an urban art installation by artist Mauro Palombo. The work features a metal silhouette of Siani, with a green section referencing his iconic Citroën Méhari and symbolizing hope. The installation includes key dates: 1959 (birth), 1985 (death), and 2025 (the 40th anniversary of his murder). This piece is the first in an ongoing project intended to place similar installations throughout the city to ensure his memory remains a permanent part of the urban landscape.

Additionally, Siani’s historic Olivetti Lexikon typewriter was featured in a special broadcast at Radio Siani in Ercolano, a station operating from a property confiscated from organized crime. The typewriter’s journey serves as a material testament to his professional legacy and the fight for legality and truth.
