Naples: Man arrested for violent smartphone robbery

A Gambian national has been arrested in Naples following a violent robbery in Piazza Garibaldi. Local police officers from the San Lorenzo unit responded to cries for help after a student from Iran was physically assaulted and had her smartphone forcibly snatched from her hands.

During the pursuit, the suspect attempted to evade arrest by resisting officers with kicks and shoves. Police successfully recovered the stolen device and returned it to the victim. The suspect, who has a prior criminal record including a similar robbery arrest in September, has been transferred to the Poggioreale prison pending judicial decisions.
