Naples municipal building fire damages council hall entrance

A fire broke out overnight at the entrance of the Sala Consiliare in the Naples municipal building on via Verdi. The blaze consumed the main door of the structure that houses the council hall, representation offices and several municipal services, and is located two blocks from Palazzo San Giacomo, the city hall.

Firefighters and police responded to the scene; no injuries or smoke inhalation were reported. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing damage to the historic building, which also contains private apartments, shops, a bank and sits above the Piazza Municipio metro station. The incident follows a similar fire a few days earlier at the Municipalità 1 headquarters in via Giordano Bruno, which also caused exterior damage but no casualties.
