Naples officials report easing of fuel protest disruptions
Authorities in Naples indicate that the most critical phase of the recent fuel protest by truck drivers has passed. Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi stated that the situation is returning to normalcy, though he noted that some sectors, such as construction sites, experienced delays due to supply shortages.
Naples Prefect Michele Di Bari credited a government decree for helping resolve the dispute. While Di Bari had prepared documents to mandate driver service (precettazione), the agreement reached through dialogue with transport companies made such measures unnecessary.
During the crisis, authorities escorted 1,050 trucks to ensure the distribution of food and medicine. Currently, approximately 150 trucks remain in line to refuel for regional distribution. Law enforcement reported identifying 500 individuals and issuing sanctions to 450 others, primarily for traffic violations, during the period of unrest.
