Naples police investigate death of woman in Ponticelli home

Police in Naples are investigating the death of a 58-year-old woman found in her home in the Ponticelli district. The body was discovered on August 17 after the victim's son alerted authorities when she failed to answer calls or respond to the door.

While investigators are considering the possibility of an accidental death—potentially caused by a sudden fainting spell leading to a fall—the circumstances have prompted a formal investigation. The victim was found in an unusual position on her bed, and the presence of bruises and blood on the floor led the prosecutor's office to open a file for manslaughter against unknown persons.

Authorities noted that the residence was locked from the inside with no signs of forced entry. Investigators also found 14 empty wine bottles in the apartment, which may be relevant to the inquiry. The Naples Prosecutor's Office has ordered an autopsy and the seizure of the body, the victim's mobile phone, and the apartment to allow forensic teams to conduct further analysis.
