Naples police officers injured by fleeing scooter driver

Two local police officers were injured in the Soccavo district of Naples after being struck by a scooter. The incident occurred on a Wednesday evening while the officers were on foot attempting to identify a motorcyclist who claimed to be the vehicle's owner. The driver suddenly accelerated, hitting both officers before fleeing the scene.

The injured officers sustained contusions and injuries expected to require recovery periods of 7 and 20 days. While the owner of the vehicle has been identified, authorities are still searching for the individual who was driving at the time of the collision.

Labor unions, including Csa and Fp Cgil, have criticized the lack of immediate support during the incident. They noted that the officers were performing foot patrols without a nearby patrol car to provide backup, calling the event a serious warning regarding officer safety and the need for motorized support during pedestrian duties.
