Naples Prosecutor investigates 109 in healthcare corruption probe
The Naples Prosecutor's Office has launched a major investigation into a suspected corruption scheme involving the prescription of unnecessary orthopedic devices at the expense of the Italian National Health Service.
A total of 109 individuals are under investigation, including doctors from the local health authorities (Asl) of Naples and Caserta, entrepreneurs, and various professionals. The investigation alleges a system of bribes used to secure prescriptions for medical devices that were not required.
Prosecutors have requested precautionary measures for 87 of the suspects: 35 requests for prison custody, 51 for house arrest, and one for a residence obligation. Interrogations are scheduled to take place between October 19 and October 29 before Judge Mariano Sorrentino.
