Naples sailing regattas postponed due to heavy rain

The opening day of the Campionato Italiano Classi Olimpiche Edison Next (CICO) in Naples has been canceled due to adverse weather conditions. Heavy rain, frequent thunderstorms, and wind gusts reaching 40 knots rendered the racing fields impassable.

Regatta committees, led by Principal Race Officer Carmelo Paroli and Technical Delegate Giuseppe D’Amico, decided to postpone the competition until Thursday, May 22. The event features a significant turnout, with a total of 347 boats and 399 sailors participating across various Olympic and Para Sailing classes.

The championship is being held in the Gulf of Naples, a location set to host the 38th America’s Cup in 2027.
