Naples school investigation: Autistic child allegedly maltreated
An investigation has been launched in Naples following allegations of maltreatment against a 9-year-old non-verbal child with severe autism at a school in the Scampia district. The child's parents became suspicious after noticing bruises, scratches, and bites on the boy's body, as well as increased anxiety. While school staff initially claimed the injuries were self-inflicted, the family decided to hide a small audio recorder in the child's clothing.
The recordings reportedly captured an educational support worker using aggressive tones and making threats, accompanied by sounds consistent with physical violence. Following these discoveries, the family filed a complaint with the Marianella Carabinieri. Medical examinations at Santobono Pediatric Hospital confirmed injuries including erythema, neck excoriations, and arm contusions, leading to a diagnosis of suspected maltreatment of a minor.
The Naples Prosecutor's Office has opened a file to investigate the incident. Legal representatives for the family and local political figures are calling for accountability and improved oversight for vulnerable students. The association 'Gli Amici di Gennaro' has also expressed support for the family and called for immediate clarity regarding the incident.
