Naples fuel crisis eases as essential goods supplies resume

The fuel supply crisis in Naples and its surrounding province is entering a recovery phase following intense protests by truck drivers. Prefect Michele Di Bari announced a progressive return to normalcy after government intervention and the threat of mandatory service for drivers helped resolve the standoff.

To prevent a total paralysis of the region, authorities organized escorted convoys for essential goods. Over 1,000 trucks carrying food, medicine, and perishable items were escorted through protected routes over a two-day period. While supermarket shelves are gradually being restocked with products such as milk and fresh produce, the recovery remains uneven across different locations.

Despite the improvement in food supplies, the fuel situation remains complex. Law enforcement reported 500 denunciations and 450 sanctions during the unrest, primarily for traffic violations. Authorities continue to monitor fuel distributors to prevent price speculation, which had previously seen prices exceed three euros per liter in some areas.
