Naples theaters host Handel opera and Sicilian drama

Naples' theatrical scene features diverse upcoming and recent productions. At the Teatro di San Carlo, Handel’s opera ‘Alcina’ was presented in a concert format. The production focused on the musical architecture and vocal virtuosity of the cast, using the orchestra and chorus to evoke the magical and emotional landscapes of the original work without traditional stage machinery.

At the Teatro Bellini, Vuccirìa Teatro is presenting ‘Immacolata Concezione (Tre riti sull’amore)’. Directed by Joele Anastasi, the play is a dramaturgical fusion of three works set in 1940s Sicily. The narrative explores themes of poverty and sacrifice through the story of a father who trades his daughter for livestock, portraying a tragic struggle within a rural historical context.
