Naples weather forecasts threaten European Volleyball Championship opening

Weather forecasts for Naples and the Campania region indicate a shift in conditions, with increasing cloud cover and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, particularly in inland areas, on Tuesday and Wednesday. While temperatures in Naples are expected to remain high, between 24°C and 31°C, the regional Civil Protection agency has maintained a green alert level, suggesting the phenomena will not be significant.

These weather patterns pose a potential challenge for the upcoming European Men's Volleyball Championship. The tournament's opening match between Italy and Sweden is scheduled for Thursday, September 10, at 9:00 PM in Piazza del Plebiscito. Because the outdoor arena is uncovered, the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) is monitoring forecasts from the Air Force that suggest a risk of thunderstorms.

If weather conditions are deemed unsafe for the outdoor venue, organizers may relocate the match to the PalaSele indoor arena in Eboli, approximately 90 kilometers from Naples. A final decision has not yet been made, and Piazza del Plebiscito remains the official venue pending updated meteorological reports.
