Naples youth revive green spaces in Rione Luzzatti

On 20 June 2026, a team of local teenagers inaugurated a 1,500‑square‑metre urban‑green renovation in NaplesRione Luzzatti, an area made famous by Elena Ferrante’s novels. The project, named “Nei viali dell’Amica Geniale,” was organised by the association Idee in Azione together with Serendipity and the social cooperative Hamal, and was financed by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme.

Participants cleared abandoned plots, planted new trees and shrubs, and installed recycled‑material street furniture, including a small book‑crossing house. A mural honouring the late Neapolitan artist Luigi Di Sarno was also added. Municipal officials, including Maria Caniglia, president of the Fourth Municipalità, and Giovanni Gemito, city assessor, attended the ceremony, highlighting the collaboration between civic bodies, NGOs and young volunteers to improve public green space and community wellbeing.
