Fenerbahçe striker Romelu Lukaku linked to MLS transfer amid poor form
Romelu Lukaku is reportedly facing a potential departure from Fenerbahçe during the January transfer window. The 33-year-old Belgian striker, who joined from Napoli, has struggled to meet expectations, recording only one goal and one assist in 13 appearances across all competitions.
Major League Soccer clubs New York City FC and Atlanta United are reportedly monitoring his situation. Other interested parties include Monaco and Everton, though Lukaku’s high salary, estimated at approximately 6.2 million euros annually, remains a significant obstacle for potential suitors.
Fenerbahçe’s recent performance has also been marked by instability. Following the departure of Ismail Kartal, Dirk Kuyt took over as interim manager, making a difficult debut in a 1-2 home loss against Göztepe. Despite the loss, Lukaku provided an assist for Matteo Guendouzi during the match.
Napoli Sporting Director Giovanni Manna commented on the player's transfer, stating that the club felt “lucky” to have found a buyer for Lukaku due to his high wages and the complexities of the transfer market.
