Napoli to cut 25 players as De Laurentiis and Allegri set summer transfer plan

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentis warned that the club will not sign new players this summer until it trims its roster. "We have 47 players and we need to place 25 before we can talk about acquisitions," he told journalists during the 2026‑27 kit launch on the MSC World Europa. The statement follows the appointment of former AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri, who signed a three‑year contract after Antonio Conte’s departure.

Allegri, described by De Laurentis as “an aziendalista,” has identified two priority areas for the market: a new goalkeeper – with Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham singled out – and reinforcement on the right‑back side, where players such as Dodô (Fiorentina) and Brooke Norton‑Cuffy (Genoa) are being tracked. The club also plans to off‑load at least 25 members of its 47‑man squad, including potential departures for Vanja Milinković‑Savić, Juan Jesus, Elmas and others.

Meanwhile, Napoli are working on contract renewals for key figures. Scott McTominay’s deal is being extended to 2030 with an option for 2031, and young forward Antonio Vergara is set for a new long‑term contract. The club has already secured permanent transfers for Alisson Santos and Rasmus Højlund, and the coaching philosophy of hiring high‑profile managers continues a trend that began with Rafa Benítez and has included Carlo Ancelotti, Luciano Spalletti and Antonio Conte.
