Napoli push for Chelsea defender Benoît Badiashile to shore up injured defence

SSC Napoli’s defensive line has been hit by injuries, with centre‑back Alessandro Buongiorno ruled out for about five months after meniscus surgery and Sam Beukema still not fully fit. Director of sport Giovanni Manna has identified Chelsea centre‑back Benoît Badiashile as the primary target. Badiashile, 25, was bought by Chelsea for €38 million from Monaco in January 2023 but has made only a handful of appearances since.

Reports say Napoli have tabled an offer of roughly €15‑18 million for the French defender. The club is exploring a loan arrangement with a €3 million loan fee and a purchase option of €2.5 million per year, allowing a quick reinforcement without a large immediate outlay. Chelsea appear open to a loan move, especially as Badiashile’s recent playing time at Stamford Bridge has been limited.

Napoli are also keeping alternative options on the table. Lecce’s young centre‑back Tiago Gabriel has been linked as a backup plan, with Lecce demanding a fee between €20 million and €30 million. The transfer strategy aims to give manager Massimiliano Allegri a reliable centre‑back for the upcoming Serie A season and European commitments.
