Napoli appoints Allegri as coach and targets goalkeeper Vicario

Napoli confirmed that former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri will take over the club after Antonio Conte's departure. President Aurelio De Laurentiis said he expects the new coach to bring "personality, humility and enthusiasm" and outlined long‑term projects such as a club‑owned stadium and a new training centre.

Allegri, known for a traditional defensive approach, has identified Guglielmo Vicario as his preferred goalkeeper. The 26‑year‑old Tottenham player is being valued at around €20 million, with Juventus also monitoring the situation. Napoli’s current options, Alex Meret and Vanja Milinkovic‑Savić, are both on uncertain contracts, and their departures may be required before any deal is completed.

The club’s preseason preparations will start in Trentino, where Allegri will assess a largely intact squad that includes defenders Di Lorenzo, Beukema, Rrahmani and others, midfielders Lobotka and Neres, and forwards such as Hojlund and Alisson Santos. The aim is to shape the team according to Allegri’s style while navigating the upcoming transfer window.
