Napoli targets defensive signings as Lukaku's contract status hangs in the balance

Napoli, under new manager Massimiliano Allegri, has identified strengthening its defence as a top priority in the upcoming transfer window. Director Giovanni Manna said the club is in advanced talks for centre‑back Mario Gila from Lazio, with Napoli having lowered its offer from €30‑30 million to €15 million and the two sides working toward a deal. The other main target is Israeli full‑back Anan Khalaili, currently at Union Saint‑Gilloise, with a reported asking price of €25 million and negotiations ongoing.

Allegri also reaffirmed his high regard for striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian forward’s contract expires next summer, and while his future remains undecided, Allegri’s positive assessment could influence Napoli’s decision. Lukaku is presently focussed on the World Cup, and any move will be evaluated later in the summer after technical and financial considerations are finalised.
