NAPTIP vows prosecution of parents selling children for sexual exploitation

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has warned that parents and guardians who facilitate the sexual exploitation of children for money or other benefits will face prosecution. NAPTIP Director General Binta Adamu Bello stated that the agency is seeing an increase in reports of parents aiding and abetting the sexual abuse of minors, describing the trend as an extreme betrayal of parental responsibility.

The warning follows the arrest of a woman in Abuja for allegedly handing her teenage daughter over to men for sexual pleasure in exchange for money. Bello emphasized that the agency will intensify surveillance, investigations, and legal actions to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice, noting the devastating physical and psychological consequences such cruelty has on victims.
