Narayanganj naval police officer removed after viral video

Abdul Mannan, a Sub-Inspector (SI) at the Sadar Naval Police Station in Narayanganj, has been removed from his duties following a viral video showing him behaving erratically while intoxicated.

The incident occurred late on Friday, September 4, near the Central Ghat area on the eastern bank of the Shitalakshya River. In the footage, Mannan is seen singing on the ground, dancing, and wailing in front of passersby. When questioned by locals about his behavior, Mannan claimed he had consumed alcohol due to extreme frustration caused by physical abuse from his wife.

However, Rakibuzzaman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Sadar Naval Police Station, provided a different explanation, stating that Mannan is suffering from mental health issues stemming from family troubles. The police have collected medical documentation from the officer's family regarding his condition. Following the social media outcry, senior police officials ordered his removal, and an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
