Narayanganj police withdraw officers after detainee video controversy

Two police officers have been withdrawn from duty following a controversy in Narayanganj, where ten detainees in the Fatullah Model Police Station custody were filmed using a mobile phone to chant political slogans.

The individuals, who were arrested on Saturday night while allegedly preparing for a procession under the banner of the banned Awami League, were seen in a social media video shouting ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’. The incident has raised serious questions regarding how the detainees obtained a mobile phone while in police custody.

Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbub Alam stated that the authorities are investigating how the video was recorded and are reviewing CCTV footage. The two officers involved in the incident, Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam and Constable Jahangir Hossain, have been removed from their posts. The detainees have since been sent to jail following a court appearance.
