Narcotics Control Bureau busts cross-border heroin cartel

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu has dismantled a cross-border heroin trafficking cartel, seizing 5.16 kg of heroin and arresting three individuals. The operation began on August 22, 2026, when officials intercepted a vehicle at Panjtirthi, Jammu, discovering the contraband in the possession of two residents of Baramulla.

Following leads from the initial seizure, the NCB tracked and arrested the alleged mastermind and supplier in Leh, Ladakh, on August 24. Preliminary investigations suggest the heroin originated in Pakistan and entered India via the Uri border sector.

The agency is currently expanding its investigation to identify the network's financial links, transporters, and local associates. This operation follows two other smaller heroin seizures by the NCB Jammu earlier this month.
