NCB destroys 61 acres of illegal cannabis in Himachal Pradesh
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has launched a large-scale joint operation to destroy illegal cannabis cultivation in the remote, high-altitude regions of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. So far, authorities have destroyed over 61 acres of illicit crops.
The operation is being conducted in collaboration with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Himachal Pradesh Police, and the State Forest Department. Due to the difficult mountainous terrain, teams are using geo-tagging, photography, and videography to document the destruction process and ensure transparency. The Forest Department is expected to issue destruction certificates upon the campaign's conclusion.
This crackdown is part of the central government’s ‘Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–29)’, which aims to achieve a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India) by targeting drug production at its source. Amanjit Singh, Additional Director of the NCB Chandigarh Zone, stated that legal action under the NDPS Act, 1985, will be initiated against those found responsible for the cultivation.
