Narcotics Control Bureau holds meeting in Dehradun to combat drug trafficking

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) held a quarterly state-level Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting in Dehradun to strengthen inter-agency strategies against drug trafficking in Uttarakhand. Chaired by the Deputy Director General of the NCB (Northern Region), the meeting included representatives from the NIA, DRI, ED, Income Tax Department, SSB, IB, Uttarakhand ANTF, and FDA.

Key discussion points included identifying major trafficking areas, monitoring smuggling routes connected to Nepal, enhancing border controls, and addressing emerging trends such as the use of darknets and cryptocurrencies. The committee also reviewed efforts to implement the Vision Document (2026-29) for drug control and the establishment of NDPS courts.

In a specific directive, the Uttarakhand Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was urged to compile major cannabis cases from the past five years involving Odisha as a source, facilitating coordination with Odisha authorities to dismantle supply networks at their origin. This follows recent statements by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who emphasized the necessity of a 'Drug-Free India' and expressed a commitment to eradicating the drug trade by December 31.
