Narendra Modi highlights DBT savings at India Mobile Congress
At the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the impact of digital technology and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) on governance. He stated that through DBT, approximately 50 lakh crore rupees have reached the bank accounts of beneficiaries linked to their mobile phones.
Modi claimed that this digital system has prevented about 5 lakh crore rupees from being lost to leakage or falling into the wrong hands. He noted that while this transition has caused opposition from those who previously profited from the old system of financial leakage, he remains determined to continue these reforms despite any protests.
The Prime Minister emphasized that mobile phones have evolved from simple communication tools into vital instruments for good governance, providing access to hundreds of government services and reducing the need for citizens to travel to physical offices for assistance.
