Narendra Modi honors Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on 100th birth anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Indian government leaders paid tribute to the legendary singer, musician, and cultural icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 100th birth anniversary.
In a statement shared on social media, Prime Minister Modi remarked that Hazarika’s voice “carried the soul of Assam and the spirit of the Northeast to the entire nation.” He noted that the artist’s music provided expression to the thoughts and spirit of many people and served to bring people closer together.
Known as the ‘Bard of the Brahmaputra,’ Hazarika is celebrated for blending Assamese folk traditions with themes of humanity, justice, and social conscience. Other senior officials, including Home Minister Amit Shah, also honored his legacy, noting his role in bringing Assamese culture to a global stage and his contribution to the nation's cultural heritage.
