Rajiv Gandhi remembered by Indian leaders on 82nd birth anniversary

Indian political leaders across the spectrum paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 82nd birth anniversary, observed as ‘Sadbhavana Diwas’ (Harmony Day). Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and various Congress officials visited his memorial, Veer Bhumi, in New Delhi.

Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, highlighted his role in initiating India’s IT revolution, lowering the voting age from 21 to 18, and implementing the 1988 New Education Policy. Rahul Gandhi also shared an emotional note regarding his mother, Sonia Gandhi, and her upcoming memoir, ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh acknowledged Gandhi’s significant contributions to India’s development journey. The anniversary served as a moment for both political parties to reflect on his legacy of technological advancement and youth empowerment.
