PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre in Mysuru
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre – Viveka Smaraka at Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama in Mysuru on 1 August 2026. The centre commemorates Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru in November 1892 and is spread over more than 81,000 sq ft, housing a 4‑D Experience Centre, an exhibition hall and a 700‑seat amphitheatre, along with classrooms, conference rooms, a library and facilities for competitive‑exam preparation. Officials said the hub is expected to serve over 10,000 students and youth from nearby institutions, offering lectures, workshops and short‑term courses focused on value‑based education and leadership development.
Security for the visit involved the deployment of more than 1,000 police personnel, road closures and traffic restrictions across the city. Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and other dignitaries attended the ceremony. In his speech, Modi highlighted the role of India’s youth in driving growth in manufacturing, the startup ecosystem, digital solutions and semiconductor production, linking their contributions to the nation’s progress and to Swami Vivekananda’s vision of education and equality.
